It seems that for most people, once you either remove these links or make them nofollow, Google will return your PR. However this PR change hasn't seemed to have affected rankings, visitor numbers or anything else, just that little green bar for each site, so most people are just ignoring Google and carrying on their business, which is the best idea in my opinion. Why let Google dictate how you can make money off your site?
